Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah Lyrics – you were looking for them and here they are!
There’s nothing quite like some of the old hymns of the faith.
Without further ado, here are the lyrics:
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah
Pilgrim through this barren land
I am weak, but thou art mighty
Hold me with thy powerful hand
Bread of heaven
Feed me now and evermore.Open thou the crystal fountain
Where the healing stream doth flow
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through
Strong Deliverer
Be thou still my strength and shield. When I tread the verge of Jordan
Bid my anxious fears subside
Bear me through the swelling torrent
Lead me safe on Canaan’s side
Songs of praises
I will ever give to thee.

I think this is a great song asking the Lord to guide and direct us as we walk through this life.
And with how quickly the world is changing and everything that’s going on in it, the lyrics are pretty timely.
When things seem to be in a constant state of upheaval, it’s incredible to know that God loves us and has a specific plan for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 says:
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
And because we know that God is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13), we can rest assured that nothing we’re encountering has caught Him by surprise.
He knew about everything that we’re going through before it happened. None of it has caught Him by surprise.
In addition to that, we know that He has promised to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), as He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)
But above all that, we know that God loves us (Romans 5:8).
In the book of John, Jesus is said to be the good shepherd. (John 10:11, John 10:14)
And with this being the case, it’s His job to lead us and our job to follow Him.
We don’t always have to know how things will all work out, but we rest in the fact that He’s got it all figured out.
Jeremiah 10:33 says, “Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.”
But in understanding God’s nature and how He loves us, we can look to Him in faith trusting Him to lead us in the path He has chosen for us.
And why I feel that the lyrics of this hymn “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah” are so powerful.
They paint the picture of just how big and powerful our God is while looking to Him in His grace to lead us through the troubles we might face.
If you’re wondering exactly how God can lead us on the path of destiny that He has for our lives, you should read the book, “The Destiny of an Overcomer.” It talks about how God can lead us – even in troubled times – and help us see His goodness in the midst of it. You can get it on Amazon here.
Or, you can read a few excerpts from it in our Messages section found here.
But before we end this, let me leave you with a few more great Bible verses on this subject:
Isaiah 54:10
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Psalm 86:15
But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Ephesians 1:5-6
he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ,
in accordance with his pleasure and will—
to the praise of his glorious grace,
which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future,
nor any powers,
neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Our God is a good God, an able and Mighty God and He’s not mad at you. He loves you with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3)
